Review a trader

After getting a few quotes I went with Josh as his cost was competitive and he clearly explains and knows what he is doing. He installed new leadwork to replace the old cement skews and did a general over hall of the entire slate roof and dormer window. I would highly recommend and you won't go wrong if you instruct Josh!

Extensive redecoration and repair of walls and ceilings. Jake was very helpful when discussing the work required and best way forward and provided a detailed quote very promptly and was able to accommodate a tight time frame. As is often the case once the repairs started more remedial work came to light but Jake honoured his original quotation. The work was completed on time and to a very high standard. The property was left clean and tidy on completion. Really can't ask for more than that and I would not hesitate to use Jake Donald again.

Had a mutual chimney stack re rendered and repaired.
Denis and team did a very good job, and left the area tidy and safe each day .
Communication was excellent and the whole process was stress free .

We recently engaged Castle Lock & Key following an act of vandalism to our Victorian tenement's front entrance door, which left the door cracked and damaged one of the hinges. We also needed a replacement door-panel button on the communal intercom system and a new stair-lighting bulb.

Cammy's offer to replace that button was a relief, as a different Edinburgh tradesperson who advertises heavily on tenement intercom panels had previously quoted us a disproportionately high amount for the same small intercom item and had been unhelpful and unpleasant to deal with by phone.

Cammy stood out immediately from several other traders we contacted through Trusted Trader. Whereas some requested photos or videos and then never followed up with an actual quotation, Cammy came out in person within 24 hours to inspect the damage and discuss the options available.

He helpfully identified that the existing electric strike was relatively weak and recommended replacing it with a heavy-duty unit, particularly given the recent vandalism and the need to improve security for the building. His proposed repairs were practical, proportionate and respectful of the historic character of the property. His quotation was clear, detailed and very reasonably priced.

An additional positive was that he was able to carry out the work within a week of providing the quote. On the day, Cammy arrived promptly with his brother. They completed the work efficiently and neatly. They repaired the damaged door, strengthened the hinge arrangement, fitted the upgraded electric strike (see photo), replaced the intercom button and attended to the stair lighting. Before leaving, Cammy took the time to show us exactly what had been done and explain the reasoning behind the various repairs and improvements.

The final invoice matched the quotation exactly, with no surprises or hidden extras.

What impressed us very much as well was the aftercare. The morning after the work was completed, the door displayed a new problem. Cammy came out the very same day to investigate. He assessed the issue as being consistent with someone having interfered with the deadlocking plunger after the repair had been completed, preventing the door from locking properly. This matched noises that I and other residents had heard overnight. Cammy rectified the problem immediately and did not charge us anything for the return visit.

Throughout our dealings with him, Cammy was exceptionally friendly, professional, courteous and clear in his explanations. The quality of the workmanship was excellent, the pricing was fair, and the customer service was outstanding.

We would not hesitate to use Castle Lock & Key again and happily recommend them to other homeowners, factors and residents' associations.

Great efficient service. Asked for quote and received quick reply, very flexible timing to carry out fitting new ceiling light, rather than having to send photos and room dimensions to other companies and contractor wanted paid upfront! The work was carried out efficiently by a very polite young man. Will definitely use Fraser again.

I had my chimney swept which is due every 12 months. The trader arrived on time, got on with the job immediately and carried it out in a very efficient and timely manner. Also the trader hoovered up once he was finished and left no dust whatsoever. First class workman and I would use him again.

This is the second time we have used Ross' services.
Our garage door blew off its hinges due to a poor lock and after being caught in a strong wind. Ross came and fixed it promptly, taking time to ensure that the repair would stand. He takes pride in doing good work.

Some minor adjustments were necessary
and this meant that, on the day, the building work was completed very quickly.
