Had not used them before, found them using Trusted Trader.

The scope was fairly limited: two rooms needing ceiling, cornices and walls painted (2 coats, white on ceiling, colour on walls). The condition of the walls wasn’t perfect, so some minor filling required.

From an initial contact through to completion, very glad to have chosen Malcolm and his team. Their excellent, professional job on the paintwork was matched by their work ethic, time keeping, courtesy and communication throughout.

Wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

I got in touch with Malcolm for a small job to wallpaper a feature wall. The work was carried out to a very high standard. The prep work was very thorough (two fills and cross lining) and the wallpapering was very good. I am delighted with the high quality of finish. Liam did a fantastic job. I would definitely use Malcolm and his team again.

In two phases over the course of 2022, Malcolm and his team completed the redecoration of most of our Victorian semi - including the internal staircase and walls reaching up to the 2nd floor cupola. Malcolm was happy to work to our timings involving other contractors, so there was a logical order for things being done. The craftsmanship was excellent. The team is friendly and professional and will listen to any concerns and suggest solutions. As other reviewers have noted, the team pays great attention to getting the preparation of surfaces right so the final papers and paints can show their best. And if the client or the team are not happy with how something has turned out, it gets redone.

Something really important, too, is how Malcolm takes on new apprentices to learn the trade from the ground up - really good to see this happening.

An excellent job by Malcolm's team - the preparatory work was so thorough, and the painting and wallpapering was equally good. The room now looks better than new! Highly recommended.

I have used Malcolm Bell Decorators Ltd for various decorating jobs and have recently used Malcolm and his team to undertake the redecoration of the entire interior of the property. This was a major job which required the team to be onsite over a period of weeks. At every stage the service is both highly professional and skilled. And it’s organised and tidy too. Great care is taken over not just the work but in the level of courtesy and consideration provided by his team. Malcolm personally maintains close supervision and is always on hand to discuss planning and any decisions which need to be made. A thorough, high quality service by Malcom and the team delivering excellent results.

Malcolm provided me with a quote for a large amount of work. I have just had my kitchen re-done and was keen to get that painted as soon as possible to allow me to take the protective covers off the new units. Liam has been in for the last week and has done a fantastic job painting the kitchen, which now looks amazing. The team will be back in May to do the rest of the work, which involves the dining-room, large hallway over two floors which will need internal scaffolding, and the common vestibule. An excellent job all round.

Malcolm kept us informed re delayed starting dates due to having to play catch up after Covid restrictions and staff illness. I was happy to wait as I knew I would be getting a good job.
The work done this summer was the hallway, a Victorian house with a huge drop from the cupola which needed a scaffold.

Entire two bed, two bath, flat decorated including all walls, ceilings and woodwork. Excellent job. Took slightly longer than we anticipated, but this was due to being meticulous and was worth the wait.

Malcolm Bell has just finished our hall and we are delighted with the work. It's tough times at the moment for trades with COVID absence and supplier issues however Malcolm kept us well informed at all times with any changes to the plan. The quality of the workmanship and also the materials used are all excellent. The decorator team were all incredibly polite and accommodating to working around us in the flat at all times (working from home currently).

Malcolm's team completed a suite of indoor and outdoor paint jobs for me over the past couple of weeks, delivering an excellent result while being reliable, diligent and professional throughout. Excellent results and value for money, and will definitely contact for future works.

I have used Malcolm and his team several times now and would recommend him wholeheartedly. His work is to an exceptionally high standard and I would not now use another decorator in Edinburgh. The preparation work in particular is thorough and provides excellent results, and he and his team are always a pleasure to talk to. Malcolm and his team transformed our dated bay windows and surrounding skirting board from a dark wooden varnish to a matt white finish, ensuring any imperfections in the wood were improved prior to painting. The communication was excellent from start to finish and we were extremely happy with the end result and wouldn't hesitate to use him again for any other decorating work we need. Had most of our house redecorated by Malcolm and his team. There were some tricky aspects with the wall papering, feature walls, high ceilings and hidden doors but the end result was stunning. Work completed quickly, and you wouldn't even know the painters had been in - the clean up was spot on. The cost was as agreed, and contact with Malcolm was regular and helpful.
