Had not used them before, found them using Trusted Trader.

The scope was fairly limited: two rooms needing ceiling, cornices and walls painted (2 coats, white on ceiling, colour on walls). The condition of the walls wasn’t perfect, so some minor filling required.

From an initial contact through to completion, very glad to have chosen Malcolm and his team. Their excellent, professional job on the paintwork was matched by their work ethic, time keeping, courtesy and communication throughout.

Wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

I got in touch with Malcolm for a small job to wallpaper a feature wall. The work was carried out to a very high standard. The prep work was very thorough (two fills and cross lining) and the wallpapering was very good. I am delighted with the high quality of finish. Liam did a fantastic job. In two phases over the course of 2022, Malcolm and his team completed the redecoration of most of our Victorian semi - including the internal staircase and walls reaching up to the 2nd floor cupola. Malcolm was happy to work to our timings involving other contractors, so there was a logical order for things being done. The craftsmanship was excellent. The team is friendly and professional and will listen to any concerns and suggest solutions. As other reviewers have noted, the team pays great attention to getting the preparation of surfaces right so the final papers and paints can show their best. And if the client or the team are not happy with how something has turned out, it gets redone.

Something really important, too, is how Malcolm takes on new apprentices to learn the trade from the ground up - really good to see this happening.

An excellent job by Malcolm's team - the preparatory work was so thorough, and the painting and wallpapering was equally good. The room now looks better than new! Highly recommended.

I have used Malcolm Bell Decorators Ltd for various decorating jobs and have recently used Malcolm and his team to undertake the redecoration of the entire interior of the property. This was a major job which required the team to be onsite over a period of weeks. At every stage the service is both highly professional and skilled. And it’s organised and tidy too. Great care is taken over not just the work but in the level of courtesy and consideration provided by his team. Malcolm personally maintains close supervision and is always on hand to discuss planning and any decisions which need to be made. Malcolm provided me with a quote for a large amount of work. I have just had my kitchen re-done and was keen to get that painted as soon as possible to allow me to take the protective covers off the new units. Liam has been in for the last week and has done a fantastic job painting the kitchen, which now looks amazing. The team will be back in May to do the rest of the work, which involves the dining-room, large hallway over two floors which will need internal scaffolding, and the common vestibule. An excellent job all round.

Malcolm and his team transformed our dated bay windows and surrounding skirting board from a dark wooden varnish to a matt white finish, ensuring any imperfections in the wood were improved prior to painting. Had most of our house redecorated by Malcolm and his team. There were some tricky aspects with the wall papering, feature walls, high ceilings and hidden doors but the end result was stunning. Work completed quickly, and you wouldn't even know the painters had been in - the clean up was spot on. The cost was as agreed, and contact with Malcolm was regular and helpful.

We have been very impressed by Malcolm's team. We got 3 bedrooms, a study, and a hallway across 3 levels painted. They were extremely thorough and careful with all the prep and have done a very neat job of the painting.

Ground floor Victorian house, front exterior paintwork: 3 window frames (large bay sash windows), double storm doors and surround, canopy over front door. Existing paint was stripped, primed and painted (2 coats). Front entrance steps (stone): power washed to remove loose, flaking paint then epoxy sprinkled with aggregate (non slip) applied and finished with 2nd coat epoxy sealer.
Quote supplied within 48hrs of initial request, work started promptly within the week and was completed on schedule. Excellent communication direct from Malcolm Bell throughout; always informed in advance of planned stages of work and of tradesmen's arrival dates. Painters always arrived on time and were efficient, professional, tidy, helpful and polite. All preparation, painting and work on steps was carried out to a high standard, using good quality and appropriate paint and materials. The original paintwork was in poor condition (old, flaking layers of gloss) and the thorough preparation carried out enabled the excellent finish achieved – crisp, smart and professional. Would use again for future work; happy to recommend.

Malcolm and the team decorated my entire property from top to bottom. As it is a very old converted steading remedial works were required to plaster. Walls needed to be be filled, smoothed over and existing papers removed and re-lined. The finish is outstanding. Better than I could have hoped for given the original condition and what’s more I added extra tasks through out the job and nothing was a problem.

I’m glad I followed Malcolm’s advice and did the whole property as I originally only requested a couple of rooms. The overall feel is fresh and light and has turned the cottage into a lovely rental property from one that was quite run down.

I got part of the exterior of my house painted. I'm very happy with the quality of work which was done. The painter turned up when he said he would and was courteous at all times.

Malcolm and his team completed a massive overhaul of our entire flat. We bought the house and had to have treatment for damp so between the damp work and the previous owners not having decorated in (very) many years, and some dodgy decorating in the past, it needed a lot of work.
Malcolm supplied a friendly and professional team, and as the flat was empty, some days there were up to 10 people there to get the job done, which was brilliant for us as we were on a deadline to move in.
Malcolm checked in every day, updating me on progress and checking I was comfortable and understood what had been achieved each day. Malcolm sorted out a ceiling and wall after water damage. Saved the lathe and plaster, secured loose cornice and left a professional finish. Also managed this at short notice and accommodated a change to preferred start date. Couldn't have asked for better and I would not hesitate to use again.

Malcolm‘s team refurbished the common stairs in our building in Jan 2020 and I would highly recommend them.
From a communication aspect, Malcolm was very patient during the time it took from the quote to the start date (5 months) given that we had to coordinate between all 6 flats in the building and the Council to agree and arrange the work.
During the refurbishment Malcolm kept in touch regularly about questions and progress updates. He also checked the progress several times to keep close to the work.
With regards to the work itself, his team worked efficiently and was very good, polite and considerate; this was especially appreciated as we had a bereavement as well as a birth in the building during the work. They always cleaned up every night which reduced the impact on the neighbours.
Most of all, the result is fantastic and with the superb customer service I would not hesitate to hire them again in the future. Thanks a lot!

Another excellent job done by the team from Malcolm Bell. We had a number of rooms decorated. I often think how hard is it to paint a wall, but when it is done by professionals such as Malcolm Bell it just looks a different class, than had I tried to do it myself. The job included painting ceilings, walls, woodwork, papering and addition of coving to several rooms. The job is excellent and definitely a standard I could never achieve. The team are all excellent to deal with and respectful of your home and what is important for you. Best of all they take care of your home and leave it as they found it. Highly recommend, whilst not the cheapest, I firmly believe that it is worth paying just a little bit more to know the outcome will be long lasting. I can't imagine we will need to redecorate for a very long time. Quality of products recommended and supplied were first class and plenty of options were made available to me. Very grateful for an excellent job.

Both Ian the tiler and Dale the painter were excellent workers, they were very thorough and paid great attention to detail, taking pride in their work.

The outside of our house was painted - a mix of surfaces including pipes, gutters, doors, iron gates, timber cladding and rendered panels - as well as a clean -up of plastic fascia panels. Overall an excellent job. The painter, Craig, was methodical and thorough and did the work without mess or any inconvenience to us. The quality of the work was very high.

Got the woodwork in the bay window of our living room painted as well as a smaller window area in a bedroom. Malcolm was prompt in replying to our query, friendly in person and gave a thorough quote for the work. This was to convert a very drab dark green unit kitchen, for elderly parents. Replacing kitchen, or doors was out of the question, and budget. Asked Malcolm if painting units was something he had experience of? I was relieved when he said yes! Not only units were painted, but the tiles also, bringing the kitchen back up to date with a more modern feel.

The results are incredible! The smile on my parents face is enough. The transformation for drab to clean and bright outstanding! I only wish I had taken before pictures.

Malcolm was recommended to me by the main contractor who carried out structural work to a large first floor georgian conversion that I own. The final finish achieved - the flat was completely repainted including walls/ceilings, large sash/case windows and woodwork, original plaster cornices resprayed, cloakroom toilet wallpapered, communal areas of the building freshened up - is outstanding.

Absolutely fantastic service from quote right through to the completion of the job. We are an independent gift shop called Bonkers, located on Hanover Street. The job required all the interior of the shop to be repainted. We were thrilled that all the paints used were eco friendly in keeping with our business ethos and also had the additional benefits of being hard wearing,able to be washed and left no smell which for a gift shop was very important. Malcolm sourced these products for us and his knowledge and experience is exceptional. Malcolm and his team did a fantastic job painting and decorating my living room and study. They were flexible in working around other jobs being carried out at the same time. I'm sorry that it's taken me a few months to write this review but we had a very poor experience with the company. To be completely fair, Malcolm is a very nice, efficient, thorough and reliable man. But he put a young guy on our job who just didn't seem especially interested or skilled enough. We had our exterior woodwork done and, at the price quoted, I expected a good quality job. Instead we had paint rings left on our floor tiles, have paint flicked all over the sills, bits were left undone and the guy had to come back after he was finished, several of the windows are painted shut and we have rough edges and a bit of peeling on a number of the frames. Clearly, lots of other people are really happy with the level of service Malcolm's company provide so I'm guessing this was a one-off but disappointing nonetheless.

Malcolm sprayed our cornicing recently and we are absolutely delighted with the result. It has transformed the room! I am really happy with the work that Malcolm and his team have done in my living room and kitchen. Malcolm is easy to contact and is a great communicator who takes pride in his business and rightly so. Michael, who was assigned to my home, was always on time and quietly went about his work all day. He made a beautiful job.

Old holes in the wall were filled in and these have completely disappeared leaving a great finish. Malcolm was also very reliable and professional, quickly responding to any queries. Malcolm and his team were able to accommodate me at short notice and did a brilliant job stripping wallpaper, preparing and lining the walls. Everything that we discussed was delivered on time, within the previously agreed budget and communication was prompt and to the point. We called Malcolm based on very good trusted trader reviews and he lived up to these on our job in April. We wanted our 20ft sitting/dining room stripped and decorated, but also needed some carpentry and plumbing. Malcolm provided recommendations for the other trades and coordinated their input which made things much easier for us. Gary (carpenter) and Graeme (plumbing) were very friendly and their work was excellent quality. We will certainly call on all of them for future jobs. Malcolm was extremely helpful making recommendations about how best to tackle bits of the job and the joins in his lining paper are invisible! Brendan and he were friendly, efficient and tidied up each night to limit any inconvenience. We were entirely comfortable with them in the house. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Malcolm and his contacts to friends and family.

Contacted Malcolm and he managed fit us in at short notice to repair a hole in our bathroom wall and paint it. You'll find cheaper quotes but you won't get a better quality job. My living room cornice, ceiling, walls and fire surround have been painted perfectly. I am pain-in-the neck fussy so if I'm delighted it's saying something. I have no qualms about recommending Malcolm.
