Business Information
First established in 1988, we are a local, family owned and ran company. We carry out landscaping projects both large and small for residential clients throughout the Lothians. We undertake a variety of gardens from initial design through the whole installation process to completion. We are TREX COMPOSITE DECKING PRO INSTALLERS - see Trex.com - and fit and supply both both timber and TREX composite decks, driveways, patios, walls, turfing and artificial grass installation, fencing, gravel and all forms of soft planting.
We also maintain and manage residential and private estates. We own machinery ranging from pedestrian to ride-on mowers with collection, out front ride-on mowers and tractors with mounted mowers. We currently own a Kubota F3680 61" out front mower, a John Deere 1545 62" out front mower, a Kubota F3090 60" with flail mower, a Kubota G21 48" and a Kubota G23 48" mid mounted mowers with collection and a Kubota L4240 tractor with 12' Trimax mower attached. All mowers are operated by trained staff giving the best, professional finish.
Our eldest son Lewis joined the company in 2016 and has excelled. His younger brother Ben joined in 2019 and they will form the future of the company. Initially called Philip Mitchell Landscaping, to reflect the input and the future ownership, in 2020 we decided to change the company name. Therefore as of February 2020 the trading name of the company was changed to Mitchell Landscaping and Ground Care Limited.

We have maintained the grounds of Gosford House for 30 years. We use several different machines for the different lawns throughout the estate.
Client wanted to changed a large 150 square metre patio to a more modern composite decked terrace. With additional planters, artificial grassed utility area and gravel grids.
Client asked that their mixed hedging be removed and replaced with a low maintenance fence. A metal scroll gate was added at the entrance path. All timber was treated.

Mitchell's have just completed a superb perimeter fence around our garden in Gullane. I cannot recommend this company highly enough. They are extremely reliable, the work is of an excellent and extremely high standard, and they are genuinely lovely guys. We are delighted with the end result and would recommend them to anyone considering landscaping work.

I contacted phil in November 2023 to discuss the project and arrange for a quote. He provided me with a detailed design and comprehensive quote and a starting date of March 2024, which i was delighted to accept.
Phil and his sons arrived promptly on the day and worked efficiently to complete the installation of Trex in the garden. The base foundations and structure was installed in around 2 days and the large decking area, including steps and planters completed to a very high standard in just under 2 weeks.
The transformation to the garden was perfect, providing us with an attractive non-slip surface.
Phil and his sons are a great example of a family run business they are professional, polite and helpful contractors. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.

Phil and his team replaced our flat roof balcony decking, removing the old rotten timber decking and installing new Trex composite decking. Not only were they accommodating with suitable time to carry out the works, but they did a great job working quickly through the various stages. They kept us informed on the next stage of works and kept the place tidy as they went. The end result is wonderful - not sure why we didn't get it done sooner!

Old slabs and walls taken away and a paved patio area created. Extensive work to front and back garden with minimal disruption. I am delighted with the results.

Following a first class experience of Phil and his team last year, when they erected new fencing in our garden, they recently returned to do some landscaping and planting at the fences.
In particular, we had a very problematic slope at the bottom of the front garden, which was difficult to maintain and was overgrown with weeds. We asked Phil for some ideas and recommendations to deal with the slope.
From a very basic discussion, Phil has landscaped and transformed the area. We are absolutely delighted with the result and have had lots of complements from everyone who has seen it.
Once again, all of the work has been completed to the highest standard, the team have gone the extra mile and are a real pleasure to deal with.
We would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Phil was the only quote I obtained, having looked up the East Lothian trusted trader website and seen the excellent reviews. Arranging a quote was straight-forward. Phil was very professional, knowledgeable and responsive, and when the quote came after a day or two I was very happy to accept.
I had to wait a couple of months for the install date which was a good sign as rated traders are always in demand and booked up, but when it arrived, the guys were very punctual, had all the tools, worked hard, were tidy and considerate of my property, and you could see the care and level of attention they paid to doing the job, from digging out the old concrete and using string to ensure the new fence posts were lined-up properly. Phil and his team were courteous, friendly and consummate professionals.
I'd happily use them again and recommend them.
