Business Information
First established in 1988, we are a local, family owned and ran company. We carry out landscaping projects both large and small for residential clients throughout the Lothians. We undertake a variety of gardens from initial design through the whole installation process to completion. We are TREX COMPOSITE DECKING PRO INSTALLERS - see Trex.com - and fit and supply both both timber and TREX composite decks, driveways, patios, walls, turfing and artificial grass installation, fencing, gravel and all forms of soft planting.
We also maintain and manage residential and private estates. We own machinery ranging from pedestrian to ride-on mowers with collection, out front ride-on mowers and tractors with mounted mowers. We currently own a Kubota F3680 61" out front mower, a John Deere 1545 62" out front mower, a Kubota F3090 60" with flail mower, a Kubota G21 48" and a Kubota G23 48" mid mounted mowers with collection and a Kubota L4240 tractor with 12' Trimax mower attached. All mowers are operated by trained staff giving the best, professional finish.
Our eldest son Lewis joined the company in 2016 and has excelled. His younger brother Ben joined in 2019 and they will form the future of the company. Initially called Philip Mitchell Landscaping, to reflect the input and the future ownership, in 2020 we decided to change the company name. Therefore as of February 2020 the trading name of the company was changed to Mitchell Landscaping and Ground Care Limited.

Phil and his sons arrived promptly on the day and worked efficiently to complete the installation of Trex in the garden. The base foundations and structure was installed in around 2 days and the large decking area, including steps and planters completed to a very high standard in just under 2 weeks.
The transformation to the garden was perfect, providing us with an attractive non-slip surface.
Phil and his sons are a great example of a family run business they are professional, polite and helpful contractors. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.

Phil and his team replaced our flat roof balcony decking, removing the old rotten timber decking and installing new Trex composite decking. Not only were they accommodating with suitable time to carry out the works, but they did a great job working quickly through the various stages. They kept us informed on the next stage of works and kept the place tidy as they went. The end result is wonderful - not sure why we didn't get it done sooner!

Following a first class experience of Phil and his team last year, when they erected new fencing in our garden, they recently returned to do some landscaping and planting at the fences.
In particular, we had a very problematic slope at the bottom of the front garden, which was difficult to maintain and was overgrown with weeds. We asked Phil for some ideas and recommendations to deal with the slope.
From a very basic discussion, Phil has landscaped and transformed the area. We are absolutely delighted with the result and have had lots of complements from everyone who has seen it.
Once again, all of the work has been completed to the highest standard, the team have gone the extra mile and are a real pleasure to deal with.
We would have no hesitation in recommending them.

I hired Phil to landscape my very scruffy gravel/paved/weed-infested driveway! They clear what was there, excavated and created a beautiful driveway with gravel using a gravel stabilising system, installed drain covers, edging etc! Phil and his son did a fantastic job - 100% satisfied customer! They arrived when they said they would, kept me updated all the way through and even the snow and rain didn't delay things too much! They also trimmed my hedge and cleared the cuttings away, which was a very last minute request from me! Phil and his son did a great job repairing and replacing my front garden fence after a bin lorry had driven through and destroyed it. From the start, Phil was great to communicate with and was happy to take on the job. Other companies I’d spoken to were reluctant to do the job as it was an insurance claim. The work itself was excellent and was completed quickly despite the pretty horrible weather conditions. Would happily recommend Phil’s work.

Phil and his team maintain the grounds here at Saltoun Hall. The quality of their work is superb. They are a pleasure to deal with, having positive and cooperative skills, which are especially necessary as there are so many challenging aspects to maintaining the grounds for all the different residents here.
They come with their own equipment which is kept in top condition.

We have used Phil before on several occasions and had no worries about having him refurbish an area of the garden into composite decking. His suggestions about materials and layout was spot on.

I have used Mitchell Landscaping before and was happy to use them again. They relaid a large patio (not originally laid by them), laid a brick edging, cut back a hedge and repaired a wooden fruit cage. As ever, the work was of a high standard. The team are friendly and professional. They come when they say they will. I will use them again.

A pleasure to have Phil and his two sons carrying out work in my front garden. Estimate sent by email and date of commencement of work confirmed. The team were very prompt and tidy in their approach to work. No stopping for long mobile calls just got on with the job. Phil is very experienced in what he does but still happy to listen to the customer's input for design etc. Neat, tidy, smart and polite with a perfect job done at the end in a timely fashion, what more can you ask for? We had a decking area, new garden gate and raised beds put in. We also had the surround for out patio replaced, an edge made to our lawn, numerous bushes pruned and new plants put in the raised beds. The quality of the work done by Phil and his son was excellent. From the outset, the communication from Phil was great. He talked through the job with us and throughout the work he updated and discussed it with us. All for a reasonable cost. We are very happy with how our garden now looks. Maintenance to a high standard of the extensive grounds of a Grade A listed mansion house. The work carried out was mainly grass cutting of large areas of lawn but included weed control, trimming of shrubbery and pruning of roses as well as some light building work.

Phil and Lewis transformed an ugly duckling wall into a thing of beauty, which has also transformed our garden. We were consulted, offered ideas and choices on what might work best and given excellent recommendations and advice, both on the material and installation.
We were stunned at the end result, and also at the speed of the work. Our garden was spic and span on completion, and an extra request was accommodated. The fence at the rear of my property was rotten. It was fronted by Leylandii which were there when we moved in 34 years. Phil arranged for a a firm of tree surgeons to remove the trees and then he and his team removed and erected a new 2m high fence. We've had Phil do work for us before and not only is his work and manner highly professional, his previous work has endured for years and still looks great. On this occasion we had him do a complete makeover of a sizeable rear and side garden for elderly inlaws which involved laying a lot of turf, building some fences, some decking, slabbing, raised beds and laying a lot of chips. Basically Phil completely transformed a massive area from a moss and weed ridden mess to a proper garden of incredibly high standard in about a week - even dealing admirably and diplomatically with some of the problems caused by 'lesser jobs' done for us by other tradesmen we'd had in. I had a clear idea of what I wanted to achieve with our front garden, and had drawn a scale plan - but I had no idea whether it was practical. At all stages, Phil listened to my ideas, offered constructive and practical suggestions and ultimately through his skill and hard work, turned my plan into a reality. I really appreciated Phil's time in discussing materials, options and solutions to some of the unforeseen issues that cropped up, and felt that he was focussed on giving us the garden we wanted - at no time did I feel as though anything was too much trouble. Communication was excellent at all times - from the first site visit to the end of the project, and he was totally reliable. Overall the quality of the hard landscaping is very good and the price was fair and competitive with other companies who quoted for the work.

Phil has transformed our front garden by replacing the gravel, grass and old fencing. We are delighted with the results and have had many compliments from neighbours. Phil was contacted to give a quote for garden works to allow access to the garden for someone with limited mobility. He arrived on time and was pleasant and courteous throughout. He provided sound advice on the best materials to use and suggestions to enhance access. He managed to start earlier than anticipated and he and the boys worked hard each day to achieve great results. They were always on time and tidy and have done a great job in a short timescale. Would definitely recommend them.

The work was completed to a very high standard. The garden gate was designed and constructed on site. We are very pleased with finished look of the job, not only with the new gate but also the sturdy new gate posts and partial fencing work.
This is the second time we have engaged this company to complete projects in our property and we have found Phil and his sons to have a very high standard of workmanship which is always consistent. They take a pride in their work and this shows in the finished job.

We engaged PML to totally redesign, and replace decking in the rear garden. Phil and his son carried out the work in a very professional manner. They arrived on time each day and completed the job on the date specified. All the old decking was removed from the site and the garden was left neat and tidy. The finished work exceeded our expectations.
They had really good innovative ideas for the design, our favourite being the beautifully built large planters.
The invoice was actually under the quote which shows the honesty of the contractor and we would have no hesitation in recommending this business.

Lay geotextile membrame to full area and installed 107 square metres of Stone Market Trident pavers, edging and soak away pebbles to front garden. A new build garden on a horrendous slope! Garden was terraced with artificial grass, decking, planters and paving. Fences either erected or made private: Philip and his men worked tirelessly. Philip made the plan for the garden and it looks wonderful. The builder left an awful slope but the garden is now level. I can now maintain the garden thanks to them. Prepared a new build house garden which was just soil and made a paved patio and path all round the house, pebble borders and a slated and pebble maintenance free feature design in the back garden: Phil was really helpful and professional at every point in the process. I was a bit of a nuisance client having not done a garden before and having only just moved in, I hadn't fully thought through my plans at the outset, and as a result I had quite a few questions and changes to request as things occurred to me. Phil was so polite and patient throughout and re-drafted the plans to suit using his excellent knowledge of the construction practicalities and his good eye for design to produce a garden which is both functional and attractive. I am absolutely delighted with the result. The work was done on time and without any mess or disruption. I had absolutely no worries about leaving the firm to do the work while I was in the office. I would definitely recommend.
