I am absolutely delighted with both the process and the end results. MJ managed all of the other trades. They were on site as required and I think this is testament to excellent and trusted relationships the trades enjoy. We had a new kitchen, new appliances, new flooring and new external doors. Everything went according to plans and timetable. I would definitely look no further than MJ Joinery for any future work.

Renovation and flat conversion in the city centre

Matthew, James and the team renovated part of our category B listed property, installing insulation, new roof lights and French doors, completely transforming the space. They were complete professionals throughout. They understood our vision and specific requests, managed all aspects of the project, kept us informed of progress, completed the works within the original estimated timeframe and, most importantly, the work was completed to a really high standard. We couldn't have been happier with their service from start to finish.

Matt and Tom were excellent. Matt initially came to review the hallway and provided a really thorough overview of what he could do with a really reasonable quote. The service was excellent and the finish is to an excellent standard as well; im really happy with the job and it’s transformed my hallway.

I had old case & sash windows removed, replaced with pvc turn & tilt windows, new worktop & splashback installed. Matthew talked me through different options for the work I was looking for and found the best option for me. Nathan and Tom were really professional, they arrived on time each day and always made sure my home was left tidy and clean at the end of the day. Nathan ensure I was kept up to date with the work going on and consulted me on any amendments that were required, as well as suggesting additional changes that made a real difference such as the extension of the splashback in to a corner. Quality of work is fantastic and would definitely recommend.

Matthew provided a very detailed and reasonable quote for work including kitchen installation, flooring, replacement of two windows and some other joinery works. We were impressed by how he took on board what we needed and by his helpful suggestions so we went ahead with him.

This autumn the work was carried out by his teams really well, they started on the agreed date, worked full days, communicated well and did an excellent job. James had great solutions for any problems that came up in the course of the work. We are very happy with the results. One minor problem showed up after work was finished, and Matthew arranged for this to be fixed quickly.

We would have no hesitation in using this business again.

We recently used Matthew's team for a kitchen renovation, which involved removing a supporting wall, installing a brand new kitchen, and fitting flooring throughout the house. His quote was the most competitive by far and they were able to complete the work within a sensible time frame. Mj Joinery converted a kitchen cupboard in to a laundry room. The work was done to a high standard very efficiently and professionally. We would definitely recommend the team.

We recently had a Velux installed with the partition wall that was facing the roof pushed back to fit under the Velux. The joiners followed the structural design and we were very happy with the result. We were briefed daily on progress. I also appreciate the fact when a couple of issues arose with the electrician that was used, the issues were fixed the very next day. Happy customer

Fixing a bannister rail to steep internal houses stairs.

Very pleased with the final product.

Main problem, the time take to fix an appointment, but I assume this has a lot to do with the popularity of this firm and the quality of its work.

But everyone was extremely polite and efficient and easy to communicate with.

I wanted a built-in wardrobe made deeper, the internal fittings changed and the mirrored, sliding doors replaced with bi-folds.
Matthew was professional & friendly from our first contact. He was realistic about how long it would take & when they could do the job. The estimate was fair in comparison to the other quotes I received & the final invoice was less than the original quote.
Nathan, who did the work, did a great job. He worked long hours, was considerate and respectful & tidied up thoroughly. All rubbish was removed and disposed of. Both he & Matthew are friendly, good communicators, explaining what they were doing, when & why. I was asked my opinion on key decisions to ensure I got what I wanted and needed.

New hardwood front door for an Edinburgh tenement building. Matthew gave honest and practical advice on exactly what was needed and the price was competitive. Matthew and his team completed major renovation works at my flat - to convert my 1 bed tenement into a 2 bed with open plan kitchen to the existing living room.
The work was completed to a very high standard and I'm really pleased with the results. The team were great to deal with - turned up when they said they would, easy to deal with and very professional.
Matthew arranged all trades including electric, plumbing and decorator for me.
There wasn't much snagging, and it was all sorted quickly without any hassle.

Matthew and his team fitted my new kitchen. They were reliable, friendly and easy to communicate with. They raised potential issues in a timely way and clearly set out options. The quality of their work was high. Would definitely recommend.

Work done in our Shower Room to replace very squeaky flooring, removal of old sink and replacing with new sink unit, including sink. Removal of old toilet and replacement with new. Removal of old piping, replaced with new and boxed in where appropriate.

The joiner and plumbers worked well as a team, in turns due to the confined space, continually working to produce, in a surprisingly short time, quality work using quality materials.

Matthew, coped well with our one or two last minute changes, supervised the work well on site and in the evenings ensured the paperwork was dealt with quickly and accurately.

M J Joinery recently replaced 8 fire doors for the owners association in a tenement. The estimate was competitive without being restrictive. Communication was very good throughout the process of refining details, and Matthew and his team fulfilled all the requirements for the work, including details such as door furniture and numbering and fireproofing larger letterboxes. He organized the copying and distributing of keys to residents and liaised with individual owners where necessary. A while after the work was finished, one of the doors appears to have been forced, and Matthew returned immediately to repair it for us.

Great stuff from Mathew and the team who helped with a number of jobs after moving house. Recommended.

Full flat refurb in old tenament building including new supporting beams, new walls, full rewiring and replumbing, boiler move, flooring throughout and full redecorating.

Excellent standard of work done in very good time.

MJ Joinery replaced our old kitchen worktop with a new one of our choice, addressing some flaws with the old setup in the process, and we are very pleased with the result. The joiners and plumbers worked well together and the job was finished and tidied up within the indicated timeframe, with Covid safety measures implemented.

Mehmet installed a fire door for me when I was under a lot of time pressure (needed my building completion certificate before selling my flat, which I needed to do asap and get back to be with my elderly Mum in another city).

He agreed to fit me into his very busy schedule and was great throughout. Understanding of my situation, stayed in touch, very friendly and polite (as was his colleague). They did an excellent job and did it very quickly, too!

We've used MJ Joinery before and will do again. Great service. Very reliable and very good value for money. They replaced our kitchen worktop and we've since been told by a different tradesman that it's been really well done. The joiners worked hand in hand with the plumber around the sink being taken out and then put back in. They also clean up at the end of the job. Definitely recommend MJ Joinery!

Matthew, Stuart and the rest of the team were great. Matthew was really communicative and quick to respond to my initial emails and kept me up to date when things were delayed over the second lockdown. Him and his team were really quick in installing our Wren kitchen and built a cupboard in a hallway alcove as well as helping us with some small jobs around the flat. Him and his team have really transformed our flat. When there were some snagging jobs, Stuart was quick to come round and sort them all out for us! I've already got a quote for some further work with them.

Had a full bathroom refurbishment. The quality of work was very good and a few little concerns we had were remedied without any issue. No payment was asked for till all work was completed to our satisfaction. Matthew, who co-ordinated the whole project, was very approachable and we are currently booking him to do more work.

Matthew coped very well indeed with all our requirements, especially changes that were included at the very last minute by us.

Contracted MJJoinery in Summer 2020 to refit our flat’s kitchen and bathroom with work beginning in December. Matt O’Neil coordinated a brilliant team of joiners, electricians and plumbers. Service was professional throughout with a keen eye for detail and pragmatic approach to hitches and problems. Work was largely completed within the week with only minor adjustments and finishing left which was promptly done.
An excellent service - will certainly recommend them to anyone wanting a high-quality and experienced service with a slick finish.

Matthew and his team did a great job of laying engineering flooring (oak) in my flat. Great attention to detail. They even pulled out all the free-standing units in my kitchen and floored underneath there, even although I hadn't asked them to.

Matthew, himself, was very prompt in replying to emails, giving the estimate etc and was very pleasant to deal with. They came when they said they would come (i.e. reliable) and finished sooner than they anticipated.

I would highly recommend them to anyone thinking of having engineered flooring fitted.

I have had a new wooden cottage front door fitted by Matthew. It needed to be made to measure to fit the opening which was not square. I have ended up with a really beautiful door which has been much admired by passers by. Delighted with service and end result.

Struggled with deciding to leave a review or not as I really hope I am the outlier when it comes to using MJ Joinery.
Asked Matthew to come out for a quote for 3 separate jobs (to be done one month after each other, which he didn't object to) back in July which he did and provided the quote quickly and it was all satisfactory. As it was just post lockdown I understood that Matthew would be busy catching up and I would have to wait - not a problem, got a date for 18th September to start on the first job.

The problems started the night before, when Matthew emailed me to say that he wouldn't be able to start the job as the person he was working with went AWOL. Ok, I understand things happen and other jobs need to be finished. The plasterer did come out on the Saturday (his van broke down on the Friday) but he didn't fully finish the job and I haven't see him since.

I then had to wait around 1 month for ANY communication from Matthew on when the job would be rescheduled. I was given a date of early November for the first job and then the second job would need to be near the end of November.

That was too long for me to wait and bt this time I was frustrated with the delays. I found it confusing that if my first job was originally booked in for September why the next job, which should have been pencilled in for 1 month afterwards, was scheduled for the end of November.

All in all not the greatest experience and really hope I have been the only person in this position.
The pictures of his other work does look very good and high quality, its a shame I can't provide a 5 star review like others.
