Two visits, 1st to inspect and quote, 2nd to carry out. Fairly minor repair to old wiring. Engineer carrying out job found a couple of nasties but did pragmatic repair rather than condemn it all or leave me with no hot water. He also suggested putting in an isolator switch, not in original quote but I thought it seemed a good idea. And…..was charged no extra at all for that!!

They have an online invoicing system to allow fast payments and they just provide generally good service which is very difficult to find with Edinburgh tradesman. Overall I've not had any issues using Ideal Electrical Solutions and I would fully recommend them to anyone looking for a solid reliable electrician.

IES provided a full test of the electrics when we moved in as we knew some work needed doing. They then provided their recommendations and we chose to have them complete the improvements including fitting a new fuse board and to also change some plug sockets and add some new ones. I asked for a quote to have communal lights fixed and the light timer to be put back into a correct sequence after power cuts left it all over the place. The work was being certified for a building warrant and when the council raised issues Mark, the managing director stepped in and clarified and resolved the issues raised directly and promptly without being asked. I had a significant problem with my old fuseboard and damaged (burnt) wires which needed urgent attention. I used the Trusted Trader website and selected IES as the most suitable company. They sent me a no-obligation quote and gave me time to make up my mind. All correspondence was easy and simple (by email). Once I agreed to the quote, I only had to wait one week for the job to be done. The electrician, Calum, arrived at my property exactly as arranged and, after a brief discussion, he proceeded to do the work to a very professional standard. The major job was to change my old, outdated fuseboard to a new, safe and modern one, which I now have. There was minimal mess, and Calum even offered to sweep up himself the little mess that there was, which is another indicator of good training and customer service. The work was done to a very high and professional standard. My property is much safer now and I have a EICR for my records. Many thanks to Calum and Mark at IES.

We had an external socket fitted to run our pond pump. There was a good level of expertise and I'm happy with the job. It was sometimes a bit hard to get through on the phone, had to ring twice a couple of times before they picked up. But would be happy to recommend.

We had a couple of jobs carried out in a flat in Edinburgh: a Landlord's electrical safety certificate, two new wall sockets mounted and a cooker light. Throughout the whole process, from the initial request, to completion, the communication was effective and efficient. Both jobs were lined up to be done the same day. The electrician arrived exactly on time, after several automatic appointment reminders (which I found very helpful!). He was flexible and helpful in terms of working out where to install wires and sockets. The work was done to a high standard.
The only aspect I would mention, that might be improved, is that when I received an initial email from IES, to agree an appointment, it was unspecific in terms of the job to be done. Whilst there was a signature (a female name) at the end of the email there was no company address or any means of identifying which company had sent the email. Normally I would know - just from a process of deduction, but I have a number of jobs undergo at the moment. So, a company address on the email would be helpful.

New security light fitting, and fixing of 2 faulty lights.

Ideal have been carrying out electrical work at my property for several years now. They have proved reliable, getting the job done quickly and at high quality for a fair price.

I called out an electrician to replace the light fitting in the bathroom of my house. He arrived promptly and installed a new and more suitable light fitting efficiently. He was polite and professional at all times, and I would certainly call on the services of Ideal Electrical Solutions again in future.

They were punctual and polite but the way they went in and out of my house they ended up leaving the doors open letting the cold in. They came to install a light in my living room ceiling which was straight forward but they dropped the old fitting on to the floor, just missing my furniture by a couple of inches. They then went on to lay the old light and fittings on my leather seat.

Next they were to replace the light and reattach the tubing that the cable was in, back on to the wall in my back garden. They did not have the fittings to reattach it and has ended up that the cable is now on show and the new light was not the same strength as my old one, and that’s after they came out to have a look at the jobs that I was wanting done and to give me a quote for the work that was to be done.

Then my extractor fan in my bathroom was loose and was making a noise and so I asked for them to fixed it in place or replace it with a new one and replace my old outdoor grill for the extractor fan ( which they installed the grill up side down). They said they could not fix it, but did not have an extractor fan to install and ended up having to come back out to fit the new extractor fan and fit the outdoor grill the right way up.

When they came out to fit the fan they were on time and this time they were a lot more considerate regarding closing the doors and the job was done quickly. I wish they would have done this on their first visit. They let themselves down on their first visit.
