Annual boiler and radiator servicing

We engaged Melville Whitson & Muir to help with our underfloor heating system. The work involved a complete change of the existing manifolds for our existing system on both the ground floor and first floor together with installation of thermostats to regulate the temperature throughout the house.
The work was completed by Chris and Stevie in a very professional manner despite the ground floor manifold not being easily accessible. There were never any problems presented only solutions. The work was completed within the time given and we are extremely happy with the final outcome and would have no hesitation in using the company for any further work or indeed recommending them to others.

Just moved into a new home with an oil boiler and was unsure when it was last serviced. I am new to an oil boiler and it is positioned outside the house. Ryan from MWM arrived and answered my many questions as to how it works, After opening the protective housing he gave me an overview as to how the controls operate. After the service he explained the work he had done and assured me the boiler is operating as it should. More good news was when I received the bill by email and it seemed very reasonable. We had a routine boiler service and minor repair to a radiator. The plumber came on time, did the job explaining to me what he was doing and answered my questions readily. We have had several pieces of work done by this company and have been pleased with the result each time. They are a mid range price company, neither cheap nor overpriced and are easy to engage with. When you leave a message on their answer machine or email them they get back to you in good time.

I use this firm for everything in my own home and also in a rental property. I appreciate that they diarise to remind me about landlord's checks etc; that they always respond quickly and always manage to fit in my job; that they seem glad to have my custom! It all works well.

Have used MWM for boiler service for a few years now and more recently for installing smart thermostats and emergency repairs to our boiler flue when we had storm damage to our roof. Cannot recommend them highly enough - they are absolutely reliable, turn up when they say they will, great communication, friendly and helpful. Having been without hot water for some days Chris correctly identified our timer control box as being at fault and also told me how to reset the immersion heater which was not working either. Although they did not instal the underfloor CH & DHW system in our house they continue to maintain it and identify any issues arising. In an age of internet-only recommendations, MW&M carry on traditional levels of service whilst being up to date on all facets of residential boiler systems. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

We have used Melville Whitson for 8 years for the annual service of our hot water cylinder system .They have always been extremely efficient ,friendly and informative and reasonable with their charges .we highly recommend them .

We had a completely new bathroom installed.

Kevin spent time with us going through choices of materials and fittings and kept the project moving.

We had quotes from a few other companies but we liked the fact that we had a brochure to show us the type of sink and shower etc we would be getting and there was a large choice of wallboards. As the bathroom was going to be fitted out mainly with wallboards this was important to us. Also we only had to wait a few months before the job took place.

Nicky and Robbie arrived and pulled the old bathroom out and proceeded to fit in the new bathroom. Nicky made a great deal of effort making sure everything was perfect. He is very precise, resulting in a lovely job. Dean did the plastering and a special thanks to Martin (Potsy Paint) who Kevin recommended to us and who came at short notice and did an excellent job painting and the ceiling and the one remaining blank wall.

Once I accepted the quote the work was carried out really quickly and any questions I had were answered within a day. A mystery slow clean water leak was soaking through the rear of our property. The bathroom fittings are built in and access is difficult. Leak was traced, parts procured and repair completed in short order with no structural or cosmetic damage to the bathroom tiling. Most impressed with both the work and the cost.

Cannot recommend MW&M highly enough. We had our en-suite completely refurbished and insulation added to the walls. Work was also carried out on another bathroom to upgrade the sink and bath taps. We discovered Melville Whitson through this site and over the summer we employed them to fit a new gas boiler and upgrade our en-suite shower room along with some work in our kitchen. Elderly, frail parents required bathroom conversion to a shower, as unable to use bath. Kevin was extremely helpful and patient with them, going to great lengths to ensure they understood what was planned, and would meet their needs, and helping choose appropriate shower cubicle, flooring etc. The work was done within a good timescale, at a fair price, and on time. All the team on site were very pleasant, tidy and considerate, and the finished work is excellent quality with every little detail as planned. In fact a small piece of additional work done at no extra cost.

Experience was very good - when coming out to quote and then planning in the job, they did everything they said they would, when they said they'd do it - exactly what you want!

Three preferred suppliers were sourced. 3 pitches were made after which Melville & Whitson were chosen. They were significantly more professional and thorough than the other two under detailed questioning of their proposals.

Scoping: Chris arrived at our home - on time. Full assessment done of needs. Open & frank discussion of what solutions would solve the issues. Convincing reasons given to back these up e.g. optimum Kwh size of boiler - flexibility to reduce/increase power if desired e.g. if we wanted to install additional radiators.

Written quotation produced for work agreed - sent within timescales promised. Date agreed for work to be completed ( over 2 days).

Work commenced on date agreed - no delays.

Friendly but equally business like disposition throughout.

Preparation of workplace: time spent securing safety of home contents (e.g. carpets etc) Full explanation given as to what was to be done and how it would be carried out. Minimised disruption at all times. Updates also provided as work progressed. Were fully informed at all times.

All work completed and tested to make sure fully operational.

Not left between day 1 and day 2 without hot water.

New boiler/system controls fully explained and demonstration given.

Hive system set up via broadband. Again, fully tested and explained.

Vaillant boiler maintenance/invalidation of 10 year warranty conditions talked through e.g. regular annual services/adding of inhibitor to system.

Outcome? Extremely successful. Brand new, powerful, high quality efficient heating/water system installed at a fair price.

Post installations - all old materials/components taken away and debris tidied up.

Invoice received - as per quote agreed. Efficient over the phone payment taken.

12 months on - so looking back did the solution meet our needs? Yes. Totally. Not one issue.
Home heating and hot water at the touch of the App/Hive control. Very quiet boiler and pump systems.

Warranty service done - October '22. Chris returned, inspected all aspects of the system. No faults. Performance level readings extremely high. Minute residue in filtration - normal. Overall, the system and its components are doing what they should.

Chris made sure service book stamped to preserve warranty terms. Pointed out that at next service inhibitor needed to be added to system. If it wasn't and the boiler developed a fault due to the PH level, Vaillant would fall back on that to excuse itself from liability.

Overall/Summary

M&W via Chris are a 1st class company and its people strive to do the very best for their customers. They pride themselves in delivering the best they can as reputation is clearly very important to them.
Chris in particular takes a personal interest in his work and should he ever get it wrong he will be the first to admit fault but make sure he puts it right. He is a trades person customers want to deal with. He comes up with logical ideas. He always makes himself available at the end of the phone to discuss any issues/worries.

If you're contemplating whether to consider using M&W for any work at your home/place of work you'd be very wise to.

Having recently moved to the area, we had no prior experience with any local tradespeople nor did we know anyone to ask for recommendations. We were encouraged by the numerous excellent reviews on trusted trader so made contact with Melville and Whitson in order to replace our ancient boiler and water tank and install a new Combi boiler. Chris came to our home and couldn’t have been more helpful, taking the time to explain everything to us and answering any questions we had.
As for the work itself, we moved out for a couple of days as we have a small baby so left the guys to it. They completed the job on time and ensured everything was cleaned up for our return home.
We are delighted with the work they did and would not hesitate to use them again.

Replacement of central heating boiler. From requesting quotation to completion of installation everything went smoothly. The 2 tradesmen who fitted the boiler put down coverings on the floor and surfaces. We were kept informed as job progressed. They tidied up after themselves and removed all rubbish.

We required remedial work to replace taps and a cistern in a bathroom.

The plumber first attended to look at issues and we then received a quote within 24 hours. Quote was accepted and an appointment to carry out the work made the next day for 3 days time.

Workman turned up on time, carried out all work as quoted, and left a clean and tidy workplace.

I have used Melville and Whitson before for a service but it was now time to get our aging lpg boiler replaced along with other work to radiators. I would highly reccomend them to anyone. They are extremely knowledgable and do an excelent job.

Called to get some radiators replaced, had someone round giving me a quote a couple of days later, and within a couple of weeks the works were complete.

The engineer I had was Stevie, who was lovely and a fast worker. He noticed one of the radiators I bought was damaged, so came back after that was replaced to complete the works. 10/10, will definitely recommend and use their services again!

Ive used the company for the last few years now for my annual boiler service. At my last service they identified a potential future issue which did become an issue around six months later. This was a part which was showing signs of wear. I contacted them and they promptly replaced the part leaving my boiler working perfectly. Our bathroom was completely transformed within 5 days. A new toilet, shower and wash hand basin were fitted and the bath was reinstated in a new postion. Despite the fact our bathroom is not a uniform shape they were able to fit in all the appliances and box around everything so that the space was maximised.
The workmanship was exellent and they paid attention to detail. The work was started promptly every day and at the end of the day everything was left clean and tidy. The staff were all very friendly and accomodating and I would highly recommend Melville and Whitson.
