Business Information
I’m based and live in the heart of East Lothian with my wife, our crazy spaniel and one big black Lab puppy and incidentally, currently renovating and extending our farm cottage near North Berwick – so stay tuned for updates on that on the website! I have been working with homeowners and businesses for over thirty-five years delivering successful projects in Scotland and beyond. In the early days, I worked primarily on larger commercial projects such as hotels, banks, offices, shopping precincts, public houses, schools, universities, and both farm and industrial buildings, here in the UK and in Europe. Over the years I’ve branched out and taken on numerous residential projects from “A” listed buildings to home extensions and attic conversions where all that experience comes in handy! Today helping folks out with their particular projects is very much what I do and enjoy! At the core though, I am still very much a practice with residential architectural expertise at the fore, providing both friendly and hopefully, knowledgeable information to all my clients.

Feasibility studies, planning applications, building warrants, construction, and right through to your completed project - I offer a factual one-stop-shop architectural service and pride myself on finding a balance between how the design can be stretched to make the most of an available budget, whilst bringing new ideas to the table.

Our builder recommended Graham. We live in a conservation area and we felt confident he had great experience in what is required. He called at our home and explained the process and we asked him to draw up plans for replacement windows and front wall. He kept us informed throughout the process albeit a lengthy period due to ELC employees working from home. We now have permission granted and if the need arose for further plans we would definitely use Graham again.

Graham did all the architectural work on a total renovation of my house. He listened to all of my ideas then made something really awesome. He also got me through the whole quagmire of listed building and other consents. I've already recommended him to other folks, including my folks, and would definitely work with him on the next project.

Graham from FGH Architectural & Building Design Services was prompt and courteous. Surveyed my property and explained to my wife and I exactly what was required and this included what preferences we wished to include.
The whole process was within a reasonable time and he kept in touch throughout.
Would have no doubts in recommending him. Unable to attach a photo as this was for planning permission, which has been granted and awaiting builders to attend.

We were recommended to Graham Humpage of FGH Architectural & Building Design Services. He was quick to respond to our intitial inquiry and came for a site visit, and quickly offered very helpful suggestions to put our very hazy plan in place. He took care of the whole planning process and structural reports. We finally have planning consent and can now begin the build process. It has been a very easy process with Graham overseeing everything so far.

I had occasion recently to seek some professional advice from Graham Humpage of FGH Architectural & Building Design Services.
Mr Humpage attended my home for a site visit exactly as arranged after having been earlier sent some drawings to bring him up to date on my proposals and save time on site. He is clearly very experienced and knowledgeable in domestic building work from the design, Building Regulations, financial and legal aspects and immediately understood what I was trying to achieve.
He was able to give me excellent advice, which will allow me to proceed to the next stage of my building project, and also suggested some useful improvements to my proposals.
From my own experience, and from other work he is currently undertaking for my family, I have no hesitation in recommending FGH as an outstanding architectural and building company whom I would happily entrust with any architectural project.

FGH has now designed several of our projects. Graham helped to design an attic conversion to our small 1 bedroom listed property in North Berwick with the addition of french doors and recently designed an extension and garage to our current property. In both instances FGH applied for planning permission and building warrant on our behalf.
All of the work has been most satisfactory and all work carried out to a high standard.

Graham at FGH came highly recommended and we are so glad we chose him as architectural designer and consultant for the (extensive!) work we're doing on our home, namely a rear extension, dormer windows and moving internal walls to allow for improvements to a staircase and rooms. The design itself involved a fair amount of troubleshooting and we were open to suggestions, which Graham was willing and able to provide. He clearly takes a lot of pleasure and pride in his work, drawing on a great deal of experience and interest in our unique requirements for our property.
Graham has provided continuous support through communications with the East Lothian Council planning office, and to the contractors working from his drawings. We have loved working with Graham and wouldn't hesitate to do so again, or to recommend him to anyone else looking for the right people to work with during such an exciting yet challenging time!

After speaking with him he visited my home, discussed my budget, family requirements for the design and importantly, the way that I wanted the house to personally work for me. The sketches he produced absolutely amazed me and afforded the confidence for me to go through into the planning and building proposal with him. He is a very welcoming and knowledgeable person who goes that extra mile to satisfy and placate his clients. Graham came highly recommended from a close friend and didn’t disappoint. Graham was very patient and helpful right from the start listening and providing input to what we thought were impossible ideas. Milestones and proof of concepts were provided as and when promised. In all, it was a great start to our journey. Graham also recommended other individuals for specific parts of the project which have turned out well. From start to finish I was kept informed of all the stages and this made the process easy, we most definitely ended up with the WOW factor on the finished job.
If you are looking for a hands on designer with a bit of imagination and flair this definitely ticks that box.
