Higher standards, brought home to East Lothian

MacMac Cleaning Services Ltd is a Trading Standards vetted East Lothian Trusted Trader, a Port Seton based family firm covering domestic and commercial cleaning, end of tenancy and deep cleans, caravan and holiday let turnarounds, carpet and upholstery cleaning, construction and site cleaning, and specialist exterior work across East Lothian and the surrounding areas.

MacMac Cleaning Services started back in 2020 with my business partner Gillian Macintyre and me cleaning two caravans at Seton Sands Holiday Park. From that small beginning it simply took off. My background is in nuclear power stations and construction, industries where health and safety is not an afterthought but the whole way you work, and I could see a gap for a cleaning company that brought that same discipline, structure and genuine care into people's homes and businesses. From the very start we believed cleaning should be done properly, safely and with pride.

What began with two caravans and the two of us has grown steadily through word of mouth and repeat custom into a real family business. There are now ten of us altogether, counting Gillian and me, and MacMac has become a familiar sight across East Lothian, with our branded vans out on the road every day.

From two caravans to a full service

As the business has grown, so has what we offer. We started with domestic cleaning and we still love looking after family homes, but we now cover a great deal more: commercial and office cleaning, end of tenancy and deep cleans, caravan and holiday let turnarounds, carpet and upholstery cleaning, and specialist exterior work such as driveways, stonework, render and roof cleaning. We also take on construction and site cleaning, where our safety background really comes into its own. Whether it is a family home, a shop, a caravan park or a building site, our customers get the same attention to detail and the same respect for their space every time.

Safety on paper as well as in practice

We are CHAS accredited, through the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme, which is recognised across the construction and facilities sectors as proof that a company's health and safety arrangements have been independently assessed. In practical terms it opens doors: it allows us to bid for tenders and to take on bigger contracts with clients who will not consider a contractor without it. It also sits behind the branded documentation, cleaning checklists, staff procedures and safe systems of work we have built up, so what we do on site is written down, trained out and auditable.

A year to remember

2025 was a special year for us. We were named Family Business of the Year at the Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce Awards, and we were finalists for Micro Business of the Year too. Those awards recognised the things we care about most: responsible growth, a strong safety culture and consistency for our customers. They meant all the more because they were won as a family, with our team beside us. Alongside the awards, we are proud of the reputation we have built with the people we clean for, and of being a Trading Standards vetted East Lothian Trusted Trader.

Looking ahead

We are not standing still. The plan is to keep growing our specialist exterior and restoration work, take on more commercial and contract cleaning, and keep investing in training, equipment and safe systems of work so our team can grow with us. Our accreditations and branded documentation mean we are ready for the kind of clients who care about safety and reliability as much as we do.

What drives us is simple. We want people to feel proud of their space again. A clean home or workplace lifts your mood and makes life that bit easier, and we love being the team that makes that happen. We do not cut corners, we clean them.
