Three friends, one shared idea

RGM Heating Ltd began in July 2020, when three long standing friends decided to build a heating company they could be proud of. Six years on, that idea has grown well beyond anything they first pictured. The team has expanded from those three founders to twenty one full time staff, with two of the original directors still closely involved, and turnover has grown tenfold between the first and sixth years of trading. Through all of that change, one thing has stayed constant: the company has worked out of Rosyth since day one, keeping its roots firmly in Fife.

Building a trusted name in Fife

For director Graeme Robertson and his fellow founders, joining the Fife Trusted Trader scheme was a natural step. They set out to build a reputable, trusted company in the area, and being Trading Standards vetted felt like the clearest way to show customers they meant it. As Graeme puts it, carrying the Fife Trusted Trader logo is a badge of honour.

“For us, the Fife Trusted Trader logo is a badge of honour.”

A vetting process worth the wait

The application itself was refreshingly painless. Graeme found the vetting straightforward and easy enough to complete, with no issues at RGM's end. New applicants are asked to have been trading for at least six months before they apply, and rather than seeing this as a hurdle, the team felt it was a good thing: a sign that the standard actually means something.

More than a logo: leads, reputation and reviews

Membership has exceeded expectations. It has helped grow the company's reputation, but it has also delivered something more tangible, namely genuine enquiries from serious customers, which is invaluable for a growing business. Graeme is quick to praise the review section too, describing it as a great tool for showing prospective customers what real people think of RGM's work. The company promotes its membership wherever it can, with the Trusted Trader logo and stickers on its website, its quotes and its vans. On the occasions the team has needed the Trusted Trader office, they have found them very helpful and quick to respond.

A growing team, and the next chapter

Graeme is in no doubt that scheme membership has played its part in the company's growth, helping RGM take on more staff and, with real pride, its first two apprentices. The road ahead looks busy. The business is moving into renewables and is very close to gaining its MCS certification for solar PV and battery storage, opening a new chapter as more Fife homeowners look for greener ways to heat and power their homes.

Recognised across Fife

That commitment has not gone unnoticed. RGM Heating was named New Business Start-up at the Kingdom FM Awards in 2022, and in 2023 it won the Community Partnership Award at the Fife Business Awards, recognition of the community work the team is especially proud of.

Boiler installation, servicing and repairs, central heating and radiators, power flushing, landlord gas safety certificates, and loft and underfloor insulation. The company works from its base at Rosyth in Fife and has engineers across central and eastern Scotland.

Does RGM Heating fit solar panels or battery storage?
Not yet, but very soon. The business is moving into renewables and is close to gaining MCS certification for solar PV and battery storage.

Has RGM Heating been checked by Trading Standards?
Yes. RGM Heating Ltd has been a Fife Trusted Trader since 2021, on a scheme run in partnership with Fife Council Trading Standards, and the business and its owners have been vetted by Trading Standards. Trading Standards do not inspect or approve individual jobs, so the workmanship is judged in the customer reviews on the profile.
