Established in 1990. We provide inspection and survey services for owners of traditional buildings, which are generally defined as those built before 1919 and constructed with solid (not cavity) walls.
Surveys are carried out by an Associate Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) who is also qualified in Conservation of Masonry. Clients will benefit from our in-depth knowledge of historic building materials and experience of traditional trade craft. Our drones are operated by a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) certified pilot.
We provide -
Inspection and condition assessment of stonemasonry.
Condition surveys of traditional buildings (typically those built pre-1919).
Inspection and photography of building fabric at high level (towers, roofs, gutters, chimneys etc) using drone technology.
We inspect and survey -
Houses and tenements
Churches and towers
Monuments and memorials
Our building inspections can help identify deterioration of building fabric and defects within individual construction elements before failure causes long term damage. If your building suffers from water penetration, we can investigate and recommend appropriate solutions. And if you need help sourcing suitable contractors and quotes, we also offer a bespoke project management service.
We are fully insured and health and safety compliant. Our location is ideal for undertaking works in central Scotland, but we are happy to consider projects elsewhere.

I am the owner of a property in a small block which consists in total of 12 flats, and Stoneworks have just completed a building survey for us. We require a roof repair and we were being given vastly differing costings so decided to have a building survey done before proceeding with any work.
David's report is extremely comprehensive and will allow all owners to proceed with confidence on any necessary work requiring done on the building. David was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for either him or Mitchell. There were no delays in replying to any of our emails nor did we feel we were taking up too much of their time. Also the cost for the survey was very reasonable and compared favourably with other quotes we received.
Having spoken to the other owners we would all be happy to use Stoneworks again for any of our individual properties.

I asked Stoneworks to survey the rear elevation of my flat to produce drawings for submitting an application for Listed Building Consent and Planning Permission.
David visited in less than a week and sent his drawings less than a week later.
I was happy with the survey as he advised me and we discussed various options.
The computer drawings were better than I could have produced by hand.

We had a multi home building surveyed by David. We needed alot of roof work done in particular and the quality of the pictures he took to assess the building were amazing and thorough, the fact he used a drone to get photos of areas that were tricky to access gave us massive confidence in his survey! David's report was very in depth so i would highly recommend Stoneworks, we will use them for any future jobs that we need.

Stoneworks we’re engaged by us (4 owners of separate flats within a Georgian A listed Building) to carry out a survey to help identify stonework defects which may be contributing to a water ingress. The report we received was exceptional, which included highly detailed photographs, some taken using a drone. The accompanying consultation from David, who has extensive experience in his field, was thorough and no question was too much trouble. The ingress has now been identified as a result. Very glad to have been referred to Stoneworks and would recommend 100%.

The work undertaken was stonework repairs on a church (over 100 years old & a listed building). The first stage was an inspection, report & detailed tender which proved both the experience & professionalism of the owner, David. The second stage comprised the actual work which was carried out on schedule & to our complete satisfaction. At all stages we were kept informed & David went above & beyond in offering additional advice which he had gathered from his obviously wide experience of old, historical buildings. To sum up - excellent!

I was lucky to have Stoneworks take on my small job to erect a memorial headstone for my mother whose casket I brought back to Scotland for burial. Communication was excellent from the start and David was good about planning meetings. The headstone came from Ukraine and shipping had logistical challenges but David was willing to go out of his way and also worked to keep costs low. When the council decided the other family headstone needed to be re-erected, David took on that task with a cheery attitude. He worked hard in inclement weather to meet our funeral deadline and did a beautiful job. Having the headstone placed before the burial meant so much to me and if mom was looking down, she would be as pleased and grateful to David and Stoneworks as I was.

We have used David Lindsay and Stoneworks on two occasions - once for stonework repairs on the frontage of a Victorian tenement, and once for the rebuild of cellar stairs and related walls at a Georgian tenement. David and his team were excellent on both jobs, and we have recommended them to others on many occasions. They are responsive, straightforward, reliable, hardworking and do high quality work. I would use them again at the drop of a hat.

Replacement of some exterior stonework on 18th century stable conversion. Very good quality of work, carried out within the agreed timescale and budget to a set price, and with excellent communication at all stages. Not the cheapest but still good value for money for a smooth experience and a good end result. Stoneworks really understand period stone buildings and can be relied upon to give sound advice.

We had stone gate piers repaired and reseated following a collision with a reversing skip lorry. The gates were also repaired by Mr Lyndesay's choice of Blacksmith.
All the work was carried out timeously, and to the highest standard, at a very reasonable price.

The work was carried out on a Church of Scotland Manse from 1897. Eroded chimney was taken down, materials set aside for reuse or replaced with new matching masonry. Wall head repaired and stack rebuilt. All access scaffolding and lifting equipment was provided satisfactorily. Gable was repointed where required.
CDM plan was prepared and agreed with the Church Property Convener. The works were completed to our complete satisfaction, to a high standard of finish, on time and within budget.
