We have a smallish, difficult site in rural Midlothian and the garden hadn’t been tended for 10+ years. Once our house renovations were complete, we needed someone to clear the site, get rid of building waste and start again. Having had a terrible experience with a previous landscaper we found on line, we needed to find someone professional, qualified and trustworthy to complete our project. We approached Alex to quote for remedial work to our patio and pergola; to instal pathways, arches, a pond, build our shed, install a bamboo proof membrane, bridge over a stream and work to the design for our garden that we had created ourselves. We explained our situation of a decimated budget and our desire to have a traditional cottage garden feel (no minimalism here) and Alex ‘got’ it straightaway. He was prompt to attend, produced a very comprehensive and professional, itemised quotation, worked with us within our budget, arrived on the starting date as promised and carried out all the tasks perfectly. Alex and his men attended every day for the couple of weeks it took to complete the job, were a pleasure to have about the place and have restored our faith in landscapers. They are coming back to plant and support a parasol tree ordered for the patio area and I’m sure we will be using them again. We have no hesitation in recommending them for any gardening/landscaping project. I’m not posting any photos until we have the planting finished ourselves, but will add them to this review at a later date.

Alex and his team completely overhauled our garden following an extension at the rear of our property. As extensive work was required, Alex offered to complete the renovations in stages over 18 months, which allowed us to fund the large project in phases. Most of the messy work was done during the winter months when we weren't using the space anyway - which was ideal and they timed the completion so that we had the garden ready to use for the nicer weather arriving.

Because we phased the work, it allowed us to live with the garden empty for a sustained period, before work started again, which was useful as it helped us realise our initial plans for the space, would work better in a slightly different format and Alex was really flexible on working with us to achieve what we wanted, and he was happy advising us on what would work, and also flagged up the ideas that would be better being changed and explained clearly why it made sense to do differently.

The garden was previously separated into sections, and the ground was very uneven due to having an old pond infilled years before. We required all fencing around the perimeter to be redone, and a huge amount of earth to be removed to level the garden. We had a porcelain paving area installed at our patio doors with a large astro turf play area, followed by a large patio with a screening to hide the trampoline at the rear.

Alex also built a large raised bed for us to plant vegetables and suggested some living wall planters to hold our herbs and lettuce - which was a brilliant idea! It not only looks great, but works well and saves on storage space!

They were really considerate of the fact that we have small children and dogs, and the area was always left tidy with no tools or equipment left out. They were all really polite and always happy to answer questions or explain anything we needed more information on. Alex designed the garden layout for us so that we could visualise the result in advance and provide feedback on what we wanted.

We love our new space and it was lovely to spend time in it over the summer. We're looking forward to having the team back to do some paving around the side, install a bin store and bike storage and then landscape and install a front-drive too. Wouldn't use anyone else now.

Alex and the team communicated well with us and were open to our plans. They flexible with our changes to the plans. The work was completed to a high standard and we were kept informed throughout the process. They laid a new patio, path and shed base and removed our front turf and replaced this with stone chippings. The team were always professional and we can’t fault their workmanship. We had the whole back garden redeveloped by Alex and his team. This involved major ground clearance, wall and fence building, laying a patio, creating paths and beds. We planned a major re-working of our back garden, with changes in levels, tearing up the old path and patio, relocation of the garden shed, redesign of the path to the back gate and many additional issues to solve drainage difficulties. We asked four companies to quote for the work and we were very specific about the details for each quote. Alex’s quote was at a good price, by far the most carefully prepared and the most thorough in its documentation. We had confidence in his style and his readiness to listen.
Alex and his team produced outstanding work with great attention to detail. They addressed new problems that arose (notably the drain issue) with imagination and careful planning. They were flexible and willing to accommodate many small changes requested during the job.
The work included changing the profiles of the entire garden front to back and left to right, enlarging the patio and laying stone pavers both there and on the new path with edge setts. The details of their work and the edge boundaries (abutting old stone walls, the house and the boundary between the patio and lawn) were all executed with great attention to detail. They laid a new lawn, reworked the garden beds, sent us to visit their supplying nursery and arranged very cost-effective purchase and delivery of over 100 plants, which they planted with great care. We are absolutely delighted with both the work done and the manner in which it was done.
The garden is totally transformed by their work, with a neighbour even suggesting that the garden should appear in Homes and Gardens because it looks so stunning!

My garden needed a massive re-vamp and I'm so glad I came across Alex and his team. I had rotting decking, existing slabs that were damaged and the ground was completely uneven.

Alex and the guys have transformed the garden into somewhere that I actually want to chill out. Although I chose a basic design, it looks so much better and neater. Just wait till I add a cheeky corner sofa and fire pit!

I found Noble Grounds Care on East Lothian Council’s Trusted Trader site when I was looking for someone to complete the hard landscaping part of a new garden. The garden needed to be cleared, have a bin store area built, a garden pond constructed and stepping stones laid.

I was happy with the quote Alex provided (it was the cheapest), all the more so when I look at the quality of the finished work and reflect on the experience of having the work done.

Alex was a pleasure to work with. He worked collaboratively throughout the process and communicated well to ensure the final result met my expectations.

We discussed a couple of design choices when Alex was on site and, while I encouraged Alex’s input, I always felt the final decision was mine to make. Having said that I had intended having circular stepping stones, but resource availability meant we had to explore other options and Alex’s suggestion of square/rectangular paving was the final choice. The result is, I think, considerably better than the original plan thanks to Alex’s input.

When Alex and Liam were on site they tended to just get on with the work without making any fuss, but would speak to me if there were any questions. They had my full confidence in what they were doing.

They had to ensure their work meshed with the final design, and this meant Alex communicating with the team doing the garden planting. I know the planting team were very happy with the contact and communication they had with Alex.

Perhaps most telling was how Alex responded to adversity, in the shape of issues with supplies outwith his control due to the coronavirus restrictions. There were only a couple of issues, which I think is to Alex’s credit, but when they occurred Alex was able to come up with solutions that had minimal impact on the job. I felt he took responsibility and did everything he could to get the job done for me.

I am very satisfied with the work done by Noble Grounds Care and was particularly impressed by their conduct and work ethic in completing the job. I would not hesitate to have Alex do any other similar work I might need done.

We asked for a number of traders to Quote for the work we required (most of these were not from the E.L. Trusted Trader List), which consisted of the installation of a decking area which encompassed a tree, constructed from composite materials, a fence constructed around the decking and between my neighbours property and my own, also from composite materials, digging out a sloping garden area at the side of the house and building a retaining wall then slabbing the resulting area.
Alex Noble stood out from the others who quoted in a number of ways. He asked much more detailed questions on what I required and highlighted his availability to start the works, which was a few months ahead of where we were at the quote stage due to his commitments to his current contracts. He quickly arranged a date to visit the site to view the areas to be worked on and to measure up fully. Again, all of his questions were pertinent and his advice was very useful. he offered to provide samples of the materials and brochures that showed examples of finished projects using the materials we wanted. Of all the quotes we received, Alex's was well constructed, easy to follow and fully costed, showing all materials, labour, hire and spoil disposal costs and of course the dreaded VAT. Also provided was details of his Insurance cover which was another reassuring factor in making our final choice. Although his was not the cheapest (nor the dearest), it was the most professional and comprehensive by far, with payment being due on completion of all works. Alex kept in touch in the period up to the start of the work, and provided the samples of the materials discussed. A firm mutual start date was agreed during the period in between and work started on that date. The work was progressed steadily and thoroughly. I was impressed that Alex had all of the correct tools and equipment for every aspect of the work, and we constantly discussed any problems found and agreed any changes taking our requirements and the practicalities into account. Delays with the lead times on some of the materials was a problem due to the huge demand on suppliers with so many people getting garden works done during this period, but Alex went the extra mile to help source alternative materials and to keep to budget, and at all times to discuss and agree any changes with us. The end result of the works was truly excellent and Alex and his team were a pleasure to deal with, hard working and professional throughout. I would thoroughly recommend Noble Grounds Care to anyone who is considering taking on a ground works or garden project. They are well worth their inclusion in the East Lothian Trusted Trader listing.
