Spence Roofing is a specialist roofing company recognised for professional workmanship, traditional craft, and reliable service throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians. Led by Josh Spence, the company brings almost two decades of experience working on many of the city’s most significant historic roofs — including work carried out on Edinburgh Castle and other notable buildings. My mum was quoted an astronomical account by a company following initial 2 tiles coming loose after first storm of season. She was not in a position to pay this amount, she is 85 and recently widowed and was very worried.
I put out a request for roofers in her local area and got some lovely feedback, one chap messaged me directly and offered a quote. Josh Spence was really friendly, put me at ease, discussed his experience which was able to be verified and had some good reviews on Facebook.
I met Josh with my mother and he immediately stated price we had been quoted was unnecessary and way above the value of repairs. He gave us hope, explained everything in detail, assisted in covering problem area with breathable membrane until he could come to fix roof. We did have to wait a few months for work to commence but we were made aware of this and agreed to it but once started, project happened very quickly and throughly

We needed our gutters cleaned and then painted along with the pipes.
Upon first visit Josh pointed out a cracked pipe that could have caused us issues in the future which was great to know.
We got other quotes and all were comparable, but Josh just stood out!
Managed to fit us in pretty quick and done a great job.
Throughout Josh was very responsive and professional.
Will definitely use his services again and recommend to others.

Josh helped with some repairs and maintenance to our roof back in Feb after the red weather warning and was incredibly helpful. He arrived promptly, completed the work needed the same day and provided some additional jobs while he was on the roof. He also provided sound advice on some future work that may be needed. Overall a really reliable and honest tradesman - I would happily use again.

Josh, completed a number of different repairs on our roof. He was professional and honest. Josh provider solutions and paid attention to the detail. Josh provided an honest opinion of the work needing completed, explained the process well, and took before and after photos that he shared with us to explain the work he carried out.

Josh did an amazing job helping me out with what I was worried was going to be a big job with my leaking gutters.
He arrived promptly actually between jobs he currently had on as I was pretty local, and inspected the gutters thoroughly and gave me a full explanation of the issue along with photos of how they were looking. He put my mind at ease that this wasn’t actually a big job and it wasn’t going to be a full refit, and that just the seals around joints need replacing and was a very easy fix for him, that’ll save me a lot of hassle in the future.
Instead of just fixing the couple of the leaking joints, Josh explained getting them all replaced at the same time since there was only a couple more, would save me any future leaks of the unreplaced joints as they degrade further, which I was very happy to do as it wasn’t much more expensive to do this.
We scheduled the work for the following week and he arrived promptly, worked efficiently and had the work done in a couple hours. Showed me photos of the work he’d done, and explained what it was he actually replaced. Which was great.
Not a single leak since!

Josh carried out excellent work on my roof , dry verge tiling & replacing lead work. Josh is reliable & honest. He clearly explains all the work needing done & he is easy talk to. His prices are reasonable . I have already recommended him to family & friends. If I need work done on my house in the future I will be contacting Josh.
