Why I Established Igoe Up Ltd

I founded Igoe Up Ltd in 2021 because I saw an opportunity to offer customers a more personal, transparent service for repairs and maintenance at height. My aim was straightforward: provide safe, quality workmanship, explain clearly what needs attention and charge a competitive price. Since then, we have grown in a controlled way, allowing us to maintain our standards and give each project the attention it deserves. We now work on some of Scotland’s most historic buildings, while continuing to support homeowners, businesses and those responsible for maintaining churches and other properties.

Our Services

We provide steeplejack and rope access services for inspections, repairs and ongoing maintenance. Our work includes roof repairs, slating, gutter cleaning, rainwater system maintenance, stonework repairs, lime pointing, chimney inspections and maintenance, and lightning protection installation, inspection and testing. We also undertake photographic surveys and help customers develop planned maintenance programmes. Whether the requirement is a small repair or a larger programme of work, we consider the condition of the building, the access requirements and the customer’s priorities before recommending a practical approach.

**Quality Repairs That Last**

Being able to reach a defect safely is only one part of the job. Completing a lasting repair also requires suitable trade skills, experience and an understanding of the materials involved. Our approach combines specialist access with practical building knowledge, helping us choose methods and materials that suit the property. We look beyond the visible symptoms wherever possible. A damp patch, for example, may be linked to defective gutters, damaged roof coverings or deteriorating joints. Understanding the cause helps us recommend work that addresses the problem and reduces the likelihood of repeat repairs.

Historic Buildings and Traditional Materials

Historic buildings require particular care, especially where traditional stonework and lime mortar are involved. Our inspection team has undertaken additional training with the Scottish Lime Centre Trust, supporting a more informed approach to inspecting historic buildings and understanding their maintenance needs. Our work for the National Trust for Scotland reinforced the value of this training. We believe that continued learning strengthens the service we provide, helping us recognise when further investigation, specialist advice or material analysis may be needed before repairs are specified.

Clear Photographic Inspection Reports

We understand that customers cannot easily check work carried out on a roof, chimney or other elevated part of a building. Clear evidence is therefore an important part of our service. Our inspection reports include referenced photographs, descriptions of defects and practical recommendations. We explain what we have found in plain language, so customers can understand the condition of their property and make informed decisions. Where relevant, reports also record the building’s listing category and reference number, a short description, access requirements and available information about the building fabric or mortar.

Helping Customers Prioritise Work

Our reports divide findings into three categories. The first is immediate action advised: defects that could create a safety hazard or cause further damage and deterioration if left unattended. The second is schedule future repairs: issues that require attention but can be organised through a planned programme. The third is no immediate action required: areas where monitoring and periodic maintenance remain important. This structure helps customers distinguish urgent concerns from longer term requirements, making it easier to organise work, explain priorities to others and allocate available budgets sensibly.

Transparent Estimates and Honest Advice

Following an inspection, where repairs are identified, we can provide separate estimates for immediate works and the next, less urgent phase. This gives customers a clearer picture of their options and helps them plan expenditure. We explain the recommended work and welcome questions before anything is agreed. Our reputation depends on trust, particularly when defects are difficult for customers to see themselves. We therefore place importance on honest reporting, clear pricing and photographic records of completed repairs, including before and after images where appropriate.

Safety at Every Stage

The safety of our employees, customers and the public is central to how we operate. We plan access arrangements carefully, assess the work and check equipment before use. We work with an independent health and safety adviser to review our procedures and support compliance with applicable requirements. Igoe Up Ltd is an ATLAS member and holds CHAS Common Assessment Standard certification. Our team has also received a safety award for a rope access emergency rescue project at Cameronbridge Bioplant, recognising the care and commitment demonstrated during that work.

Preventative Maintenance and Winter Care

Regular maintenance can help identify problems before they develop into more extensive repairs. We support customers with inspections, gutter cleaning and planned remedial work, particularly ahead of winter and following severe weather. For churches, we have also developed practical guidance for property conveners, helping people without a building background recognise warning signs such as overflowing gutters, water staining, slipped slates and internal damp. By combining straightforward advice with professional inspection, we help those responsible for buildings organise maintenance and respond promptly when concerns arise.
