Greig did an extensive external and internal stone replacement/ repair for us. He is a true craftsman who takes pride in his work, doesn't cut corners and won't compromise on quality, so you get what you pay for and, to us, it's worth every penny.

The work was a second commission undertaken within 12 months, this time to demolish and rebuild 3 large sandstone chimneys on my Victorian terraced house, that are shared with two adjacent neighbours. Having experienced his craftmanship when replacing skew stones, I had no hesitation in engaging him a second time for this more extensive work. All my previous positives about Greig were experienced again: detailed, transparent, itemised and competitive estimates/quotes; responsive communication; regular updates on progress/issues; clear explanation; extensive acquired knowledge & expertise; meticulous, high quality execution of work and balanced, trustworthy advice, taking into account the architectural integrity of the property. He is totally professional, but a friendly, reliable and a tidy worker. I also liked the fact that he not only sourced a competitive scaffolding firm, but managed all communication and payment with them, including securing a competitive rental extension when I discovered, unexpectedly, that I needed to replace my large timber cupola at the end of his works. I have no hesitation in recommending him.

Torus has just completed restoration, repair and rebuilding works on my Victorian sandstone property. I consider them to be craftsmen of a very high standard. The works involved were varied from a chimney rebuild (retaining patency and functionality of the chimney) to removing previously erroneously applied cement render and replacing this with the correct lime mortar. They were knowledgeable, helpful and tidy and showed great respect for both myself and my property.

Torus repointed both sides of a large boundary wall and refurbished the sandstone pillars at the property entrance. Greig was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and hardworking. His work has enhanced the property and indeed the look of the whole street. The use of lime mortar in contrast to concrete, lovingly and painstakingly applied, is a joy to behold.

Greig and Ian from Torus Stonecraft repointed and repaired the entire rear wall of our sandstone terraced house using traditional lime mortar and rebuilt a small, crumbling wall in our front garden. Their quote was very competitive, they sourced an excellent scaffolder, and carried out all the work exactly as they said they would, when they said they would - all really efficiently and with meticulous attention to detail. I was really impressed by how they got on with the work and completed it so quickly. They have done a really beautiful job - we are absolutely delighted with it. Greig and Ian were also a real pleasure to deal with - while they worked really hard, they were also very friendly - and funny - and took extra care not only to clean up in our garden but also our neighbour's, as the wind had taken some of the inevitable dust next door. They really did go above and beyond, and I would recommend them to anyone without any hesitation whatsoever.

I used Torus Stonecraft to repair my garden wall which had been broken and buckled by the massive roots of a eucalyptus tree. Once the tree and stump were gone, Torus repaired the wall to a very high standard. It took just over a day in total and was left clean and tidy. Traditional lime mortar was used which should last 100+ years so it's money well spent in comparison to having it patched up with cement which doesn't last. Greig provided a detailed quote, turned up when he said he would, communicated well throughout by email and was generally very professional and nice to have around. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. His work is of a very high standard.

We had sandstone repair work carried out (crumbling stone cut out and repaired, colour matched expertly) and several linear metres of pointing done. Greig at Torus was very responsive, provided a quote promptly and managed to fit in our relatively small job within a few weeks. He’s clearly very passionate about his work and very professional, cleaning up after him and the stone looks as good as new. I definitely recommend him and hope to use him again soon for a larger job involving flagstones and an internal stairwell.

His quote was competitive and I liked the way that he took the initiative to source a more competitive scaffolding supplier. I needed a small but important repair to a wall which showed signs of water ingress and Greig came over and offered advice and a couple of options. I was pleased at how soon the job could be fitted into his schedule and Greig and Ian arrived promptly. The old cement pointing was raked out of the inside and outside of the wall and replaced with lime mortar - the result is excellent. They were very efficient, tidy and friendly and when I spoke to the neighbour who helped with giving them access she was pleased with how things had gone. It was a simple job, replacing an old plastic repair to a chimneyhead. Greig was very easy to deal with, and did the job quickly and tidied up beautifully. Can't really vouch for value for money because it was too small a job to get another estimate.

Fantastic service by Greig at Torus Stonecraft - not a large job and was happy to come out and asses, and then did a great job of the repairs. Also gave a really good assessment of the other stonework - much more trustworthy than some of what I’d received from others; willing to say what did and did not need attention, and what sort of timeframe. The minute I met with Greg I knew I wanted him to do the sand stone repair job on my Victorian mews building in Edinburgh West End. He is a very knowledgeable stonemason and a good guy. One is never sure one will get a good tradesman these days so it was with some trepidation that I began the exploration of who to use to repair damaged stone on my property. I collected a few quotes and went to visit a few sites with the suppliers I had selected. Greig's made arrangements to visit some of his previous work which I did. The work looked solid and reliable and the one customer I did speak with offered praise for the work done.

The quotes I received were wide and varied with some wanting stone replacement of mullions etc but I was impressed with Greig who indicated that he felt all could be repaired. Whilst not the cheapest ( possibly as others were insisting on stone replacement) I was more impressed with Greig. The level of repairs he was suggesting were more comprehensive that others who seemed more willing to do more partial repairs. ( one will never know if partial would do but I suspect not). As such the repairs suggested by Greig looked to me to offer the greatest chance of success together with his level of detail on what would be repaired and his plan around what needed to be done. If there was any improvement it would be just to spell out for consumers precisely what will be done and what will not, but Greig did follow up with detailed pictures of which stone would be repaired. I would suggest that should be the standard.

The work commenced and I have to say Greig was even more thorough than I had thought. The attention to detail in removing the previous repairs and the finish were first class. It was messy and dusty which we hadn't really anticipated but I suspect that can't be helped with grinding lots of stone. The end product has however been excellent

I would recommend that if anyone needs stonework done and wishes a quality finish then they should look no further than Greig. We will use Greig's services to do further work on the stone over the course of the next 2/3 years

Torus Stonecraft were professional in the work that they carried out by erecting a War Memorial in Wellesley Parish which had originally was part of the Innerleven East Church. The Innerleven East church was joined with us on the retirement or their minister. Although the work was messy and dusty Torus tried their best to keep the dust to a minimum, this was not an easy task.
The wall still has to be painted but this cannot happen until the plaster is completely dry and this will take some days.
If we were asked we would recommend them to others wishing work of this kind carried out.

I recently engaged Torus Stonecraft to clean and repoint a tired looking stone staircase and balustrade on my New Town property with great results. Torus certainly ticked all the boxes for reliability, efficiency, quality and expertise. I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending or using their services again in the future.

Torus quoted for a project and when the project did not go ahead issued an unsolicited invoice outwith any agreement, furthermore this unsolicited invoice was issued immediately after the death of the client (my father). While other suppliers to the job waited patiently until the appropriate point to issue an invoice, Torus blundered on with an incomprehensible level of insensitivity. Chasing the unsolicited invoice through a third party repeatedly during the immediate weeks after my fathers death.
I would think very carefully about who else might be able to quote for the work before engaging Torus.

Thoroughly professional, he is friendly and a good communicator - so easy to discuss the work with. He was really good at explaining options in what turned out to be a much bigger project than anticipated, due to underlying flaws which were hidden by much older 'repairs' (flaws which Greig, when he gave his original assesment, had warned us might be revealed once work started). Always punctional, from sending us the original quote through to providing revised estimates and arriving on site - we were never left waiting and wondering.
